Two radical concepts make up this new approach.
a. The needle must be bent -- this feature enables the needle to curve around a vein and approach the deeper artery.
b. The needle must be dull. A dull needle does a better job of opening the lumen -- once the lumen is open there is nothing to it.

It is recommended that when using this new approved technic a large sponge be provided.
